The Jumps Pro launches and lands a 9/1 with Galaxy Rock winning at Cheltenham!

TONY MCCOY cruised to an easy victory at Cheltenham on the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Galaxy Rock, beating the staying-on Ballyfitz and long-time leader Carruthers into second and third.

The 9-1 winner was always prominent and crept to the front under McCoy in tiny increments, eventually seizing the lead from Carruthers turning towards home.

Although Carruthers battled on gamely and Ballyfitz was full of running taking thefinal fence – simultaneously passing Carruthers into second – neither had any chance against the winner.

“Jonjo is an unbelievable trainer of staying chasers and we don’t have many Saturday horses so it’s important to take our chances,” said McCoy.

Edwin Tuer, who owns and trains Easy Terms, said: “The handicapper forced us to come here today because he put her up 11lb, so it made sense to run her under a penalty. Although she was 5lb well in, she’s done it really well and seems very versatile with regards trip and ground.”

Royal Ascot Betting Tips

St Nicholas Abbey Lands a Maximum Bet

Aidan O’Brien’s colt was disappointing in the 2000 Guineas on his only start as a three-year-old but a recent victory at Chester suggested the fire still burned bright. Favourite backers would have been sweating as multiple Group One winner Midday cruised to the front passing the three-furlong marker, with Ryan Moore working hard on St Nicholas Abbey.

But the complexion of the race changed in the closing stages as St Nicholas Abbey’s stamina began to kick in and he managed to pick up Midday and score by a length.

Moore said: “Midday just quickened up a bit better than me. I was going to make the running but Dandino wanted to go on.  “It just took him a while to hit top gear but he was very honest today – he fought very hard.

Antara Ridden By Dettori

Settled towards the rear of the eight runner field from her wide draw by Dettori, Antara made smooth progress and won a shade cosily by around three parts of a length from the fast-finishing First City.

Timepiece and Skyway had cut out the early running at a reasonable pace but Dettori pulled his filly wide early in the straight and always looked to be travelling cosily.

The pair breezed past Clinical and the weakening Timepiece and never looked like being caught by First City who finished to good effect under William Buick with Clinical back in third on her seasonal reappearance.

The well backed favourite was recording back to back victories in this contest over an extended mile and got the day off to a terrific start for Godolphin ahead of favourite Blue Bunting’s run in the Investec Oaks.
